Thanks to friends, family, and the internet, there’s no shortage of available advice when you’re facing a plumbing dilemma. And while all the information shared is meant to be helpful, there’s a lot of misconceptions and misinformation out there. So, before you attempt to follow some well-meaning advice, learn what’s a useful suggestion and what could end up costing you dearly.

Myth #1:Lemon peels make your disposal smell nice.

True! Lemon will leave your sink and kitchen smelling citrus fresh. However, if the blades to your disposal aren’t sharp enough, the lemon peels could damage it. Instead, use a mixture of vinegar and baking soda to leave your drain smelling fresh.

Myth #2: Flushable wipes are safe to flush.

False! While flushable wipes will flush, they also cause major problems. Unlike toilet paper, which is designed to dissolve quickly in water so as not to clog pipes, flushable wipes are not as biodegradable, so they tend to accumulate in pipes and cause clogs. A number of things say they’re flushable, but that doesn’t mean they are. If it’s not toilet paper, don’t risk it.

Myth #3: A leaky faucet is not a real emergency.

True! A little drip might not be considered an “emergency.” But what about the increase in your water bill? Or the cost of replacing your fixtures because the ongoing leak caused them to deteriorate? Calling a plumber as soon as you notice a leak could save you unnecessary expenses.

Myth #4: Regular maintenance isn’t necessary.

False! Many people think calling a plumber isn’t necessary if everything is flushing and flowing properly. When you schedule routine maintenance and yearly inspections, a skilled professional can help prevent major and unforeseen problems that are sure to cost you more than a regular inspection. When it comes to plumbing, let the plumbing professionals voice their expert opinion.  Raider Rooter plumbers have been providing South Florida with reliable, affordable, and high-quality plumbing services for over 40 years.
