Community is a word often heard around our office. We’ve worked hard to establish good relationships with other businesses and community partners in South Florida. And we welcome the opportunity to volunteer our time and resources to causes that benefit our hometown.
So, when we had a chance to be a part of the great work at the Wellington Conservation Center, we jumped at the opportunity. This local non-profit that rescues and rehomes exotic animals recently reached out to us for help saving Sulcata tortoises.
The center was looking for compartments where the tortoises could sleep in daily and remain safe in the event of a hurricane. As one of the largest tortoise species in the world, it’s not uncommon for adults to grow to be two to three feet long and weigh as much as 150 pounds. So, they had the idea of housing them in 500-gallon concrete septic tanks.
That’s where we came in! After learning more about their work and touring the facility, we were happy to provide three enclosures to serve as permanent homes for the Sulcata tortoises. I encourage you to visit the Wellington Conservation Center, take a tour, and meet all the unwanted, abandoned, and injured animals they care for. I guarantee you’ll gain an appreciation for the importance of conservation, and have fun along the way!
Animal rescue and environmental stewardship are very important to me. And, I’m grateful to our Raider Rooter customers for making these donations possible. We know you have a choice in plumbing and septic professionals. We (and the animals!) thank you for your business!
